Pure DPS: Mage, Warlock, Hunter, Rogue
Hybrid:Ret Paladin, Enh or Ele Shaman, Shadow Priest, Any Death Knight Spec, Feral or Balance Druid, Fury or Arms Warrior
This post is not about straight DPS numbers, it includes the utility that each class brings as well.
I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts recently, Inside Azeroth (insideazeroth.com), and one of the hosts said that he is retiring all of his Pure DPS classes due to Dual Spec making Hybrids even more desirable. With Dual Specs, a Hybrid DPS can easily change roles, assuming they have the correct gear gear to do so.
Also, it seems like Pure DPS and Hybrid DPS are so close that it doesn’t really matter. This is assuming that the players playing these classes have equal gear and skill
I decided to make this post to see what you guys would rather bring to a raid, all Pure DPS, all Hybrid DPS, or a mix of the two, and why you would bring them.
PURE:
Mage: Int Buff, Replenishment (if Frost), 5% crit(if fire), food, portal, Sheep, Good CC (if Frost), Focus Magic(if arcane), Pet for a short time(if frost), Spellsteal
Food and portals don’t affect the fight. Frost is not a common Raid spec so it almost doesn’t count.
Warlock:Replenishment(if Destro), Healthstones, Summon portal, pet DPS, 5% crit(if you have improved Shadow Bolt) (5% crit also brought by a fire mage), Felhunter takes Debuffs off of summoner and takes buffs off of enemies, Curse of Elements
Summon Stonedoes not affect battle.
Hunter:replenishment(if Survival), 3% more raid damage(if BM), Aspect of the Pack, CC with Wyvern Sting and traps(Wyvern Sting is in SV), pet DPS,
Rogue:Sap, Interrupts, stuns, Expose Armor(doesn’t stack with sunder armor), 3% Crit(if you have master poisoner), Hemorrhage(if you are subtlety)
HYBRID:
Ret Paladin: Replenishment, Instant Cast Flash of Light, Bubble, 3% raidwide haste, Divine Storm healing effect, Buffs, 3% Crit, Divine Sacrafice(if you go that far down in the Prot tree), Vindication(damageing attacks have a chance to reduce targets attributes), Repentance, Auras, 3% raidwide damage increase, Jugdement of Light and Wisdom
Shaman: Totems, Bloodlust, 10% AP increase(if Enh), 6% crit(if Ele), Instant cast heals(if enh), ability to ghetto heal
Shadow Priest:3% hit buff, Replenishment, Vampiric Embrace, Stamina Buff, Spirit Buff, Sheild, ability to ghetto heal
Death Knight:Horn of Winter, Windfury type Buff(if frost), 10% AP(if blood), Hysteria(if Blood), Mark Of Blood( if Blood), Ebon Plaguebringer(if Unholy), Pet DPS(if unholy)
Anti-magic Zone(if Unholy)
Druid: 3% hit buff(if balance), 5%spell and melee hit(Boomkin Aura and Leader Of the pack), 3% haste buff(if Balace), 15%of your spirit is converted into Spell damage( if balance), Mangle, Improved Leader of the pack(chance to heal yourself when you crit), Gift of the wild, Thorns, ability to ghetto heal, 13%spell damge increas(if balance), battle rez, Innervate
Warrior:Shouts, Rampage(if Fury)
If I missed anything please let me know. Before you comment, please make sure you know what your talking about.

While I can see how some people say that dual spec favours hybrids over pure classes I still don’t see justification of abandoning those characters for convenience.
When assembling a raid I would always ALWAYS pick a good player over a player with the most utility or versatility. It’s really all about the person you bring.
I mostly agree with your listing of things each class brings to the raid but I have a few hangups. I can’t bring myself to call warrior hybrid even if they can fulfill the role of tank or DPS. They’re still a pure class in my mind. Also, while Shaman and S. Priests are able to ghetto-heal, Balance and Feral Druids really can’t. You should have seen when Tigorasou tried to help me out by healing on one of the fights… it was sadness to the extreme.
I suspect most people wouldn’t even take the class’ hybridness into account when putting together a raid unless they’re already somewhat hardcore. Considering the class and its abilities and benefits, sure, but denying a pure DPS a spot because a hybrid DPS could also heal/tank/lol is weird. I stand firm on my player before class standpoint.
A raid is more fun that way, isn’t it?
PS: sorry for long comment <3
My post is taking into account that the players have equal skill. Player before class works if you’re not hardcore, but if you’re hardcore then you want to get as much out of the raid as possible. I don’t just mean as much DPS as possible, but as much utility/buffs/survivability. Obviously, if a pure is better than a Hybrid, you would take the pure, but as I said, I’m assuming all the skill is the same.
Warriors are Hybrids. Ability to tank or DPS makes it a hybrid, maybe not the best example of a hybrid, but a hybrid.
How can a S. Priest ghetto heal but not a balance druid? Balance Druids focus on SP just like S. Priests. I don’t see how that works… The heals may not be great but hey its there and its called “ghetto healing” not “uber leet heals”. Sorry, I don’t want to sound mean.
Dual Spec could be a deciding factor between a Druid Rogue because then you don’t have to waste time to pull in the Rogue when the Druid can just swap to whatever role required. Example: You have a Druid tank and a warrior tank, your about to do Sapphiron in 10 man naxx, which requires one tank. You want the Warrior to tank, you need to get rid of the druid tank. You can either pull in a rogue or just let the Druid use his dual spec to DPS.
It’s all about convenience. Not only does it take less time to just use the dual spec but the druid has more utility. That is why a Hybrid would be more wanted, in a hardcore guild, than a pure class probably.
Your not abandoning the Pure class, you just have less of a reason to bring them. If i could bring a Boomkin or a Affliction Lock, i would grab the Moonkin.
This is all my opinion.
Don’t forget… Marksmanship hunters bring Trueshot Aura: 10% increased Attack Power for everyone in the raid!
